For a good family historical visit try Tamworth Castle -And an enjoyable family day out can be had at Twycross Zoo or Drayton Manor Theme Park. If you are interested in antiques, Whitemoors Antiques at Shenton is well worth a visit. For train enthusiasts you can travel to Shenton by steam train from Shackerstone through Market Bosworth. If you like canals and marinas visit Sutton Cheney Wharf and Bosworth Marina. We have linked these at the bottom of the page.
BOSWORTH BATTLEFIELD
A short drive away is Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre, here the dramatic story of the Battle of Bosworth on Monday 22nd August 1485, which marked a major turning point in English history, is told. At just another short drive is Twycross Zoo, sure to take up an entire day with its engaging animals and attractions, Twycross Zoo is a must for all ages.
Twycross Zoo is now renowned as a World Primate Centre and has a wide variety of monkeys and apes including the UK’s only group of bonobos. They have breeding groups of many endangered primate species so they often have babies and toddlers playing around in their great ape groups, and in many of their monkey groups. They also hold a range of other species including Asian elephants, snow leopards, penguins, meerkats, tapir and the world’s rarest big cat, the Amur leopard.
